THE FOLLOWING INTERACTIVE DVD/VHS REVIEW IS OPINIONATED AND SHOULD NOT BE TAKEN AS FACT.
I AM NOT CONSIDERED A PROFESSIONAL WRITER, NOR WOULD I EVER CONSIDER MYSELF ONE SO THE WRITING TECHNIQUE IS ONE AS IF I WERE TALKING TO EVERYONE ON THE AIR DURING THE WEEKLY SUNSET FLIP WRESTLING SHOW.
REGARDLESS OF WHAT IS WRITTEN ABOUT ANYONE, I RESPECT PRO WRESTLERS AS A WHOLE FOR PUTTING THEIR BODIES ON THE LINE FOR THEIR ENTERTAINMENT.
PLEASE FEEL FREE TO REPLY. HATEFUL RESPONSES SUCH AS "fuck YOU TRISH STRATUS IS THE BEST" ARE NOT WELCOME AND WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
Hi everyone,
It's time for another Interactive DVD/VHS Review, done exclusively on the Sunset Flip Wrestling Show myspace (www.myspace.com/sunsetflipshow) and the NYWC board. Twice a week I write about a DVD that I have from either WWE, TNA, ROH. I received a big lot of DVD's about a year ago so it's time to put them to good use.
This time we take a look at WWE Royal Rumble 1993. Here's a look at the matches:
WWE Royal Rumble 1993
January 24, 1993 (my birthday except many years earlier)
Sacramento, CA ARCO Arena
The Royal Rumble Match
WWE Championship Match
Bret "Hitman" Hart vs Razor Ramon
Intercontinental Championship Match
Shawn Michaels vs Marty Jannetty
Bam Bam Bigelow vs The Big Bossman
Beverly Brothers vs Steiner Brothers
I don't know when I became a Wrestling fan exactly but I know it was somewhere between the period of after Wrestlemania 9 and before King of the Ring of that year. As a kid I found the gimmicks strange but appealing.
I've always enjoyed the Royal Rumble PPV. I have always considered Royal Rumble 2003 the worst Royal Rumble in history but I'm sure that my own personal opinion. To be fair, I have never watched the 1993 Royal Rumble and this will legitimately be the first time watching this event. it is one of the disc in the Royal Rumble anthology that I have never watched.
The Beverly Brothers vs Steiner Brothers
The Beverly Brothers. A team that I often cite is better than Demolition (mostly cause I hate Demolition). When I first started watching I loved the Steiners. I liked the Frankensteiner, I liked Rick running around. without the match even beginning I know this tag team action will be much better than any tag team wrestling going on WWE nowadays.
Good tag team match. Tag team wrestling. Long forgotten by today's WWE product.
Shawn Michaels vs Marty Jannetty
I have to be honest, I was disappointed. Maybe I just expected so much from this match. Shawn Michaels wins with perhaps the worst superkick I have ever seen applied. This is not to say it was bad. In fact, very few matches to me are bad unless they are full of botches.
Bam Bam Bigelow vs Big Bossman
Very boring to be quite honest. I did not enjoy this match at all then again I've never really been a fan of a big guy vs big guy match. Next.
Bret Hart vs Razor Ramon
The announcers try to convince me Ramon has a shot to win. Even back then i would never believe it. Very good match.
Bobby Heenan then introduces Lex Luger. Heenan is really funny during this segment. \
Caesar announces Wrestlemania 9 in Las Vegas Nevada. Okay whatever.
Royal Rumble Match
BOB BACKLUND VS FLAIR STARTS IT OFF! What a match!
I miss the old Undertaker. I know some people think he's the same Undertaker he started off with but I disagree. I want "no sell Undertaker" where nothing can hurt him. Undertaker dominates until we get an Undertaker-Giant Gonzalez showdown.
As always, lots of feuds were touched upon such as Dibiase/Virgil and Perfect/Flair. All in all a good Royal Rumble match.
Bob Backlund was the ironman of this match. Drawing number 1 and making it to the final 3. Yokozuna was your big, and I do mean BIG, winnner.
As far as the event as a whole, I thought it was very good, I don't feel it was "knock you out of your socks" amazing but still good. Also, after watching this Royal Rumble, I still stand by my belief that Royal Rumble 2003 is still the worst Royal Rumble of all time. The 1993 Royal Rumble has not changed my opinion of that.
So let me know what you think. Do you agree? Did you enjoy it more than me? Do you think I was being generous? reply back and don't forget to download the latest show at sunsetflipwrestling.podomatic.com and support your favorite wrestler in the Summer Rumble.
until next time I'm Jim Boy Star and let me know what you thought of Royal Rumble 1993.
