[today's daily news, editorial section,"holden lives!"] "To call J.D. Salinger an american original is to engage in gross understatement. No writer has been so much a part of the coming-of-age experience for so long, yet no writer was more of a one-hit wonder. No writer is equally famous for having written a novel that has sold 60 million copies and for refusing the trappings of celebrity adulation. After WWII and before 60's upheaval, salinger came out of nowhere with his great creation("a catcher in the rye"),a book written for adults that became a rite for kids. And now, after decades as a recluse in new hampshire, salinger has died at age 91. He is survived by a boy who hates "phonies" so much it makes him crazy."
