THE FOLLOWING INTERACTIVE DVD/VHS REVIEW IS OPINIONATED AND SHOULD NOT BE TAKEN AS FACT.
I AM NOT CONSIDERED A PROFESSIONAL WRITER, NOR WOULD I EVER CONSIDER MYSELF ONE SO THE WRITING TECHNIQUE IS ONE AS IF I WERE TALKING TO EVERYONE ON THE AIR DURING THE WEEKLY SUNSET FLIP WRESTLING SHOW.
REGARDLESS OF WHAT IS WRITTEN ABOUT ANYONE, I RESPECT PRO WRESTLERS AS A WHOLE FOR PUTTING THEIR BODIES ON THE LINE FOR THEIR ENTERTAINMENT.
PLEASE FEEL FREE TO REPLY. HATEFUL RESPONSES SUCH AS "fuck YOU TRISH STRATUS IS THE BEST" ARE NOT WELCOME AND WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
Hi everyone,
It's time for another Interactive DVD/VHS Review, done exclusively on the Sunset Flip Wrestling Show myspace (www.myspace.com/sunsetflipshow) and the NYWC board. Twice a week I write about a DVD that I have from either WWE, TNA, ROH. I received a big lot of DVD's about a year ago so it's time to put them to good use.
This time we take a look at WCW road Wild, which I watched on WWE Classics on Demand
This show features the wrestling debut of Jay Leno and a battle royal.
Meng vs Barbarian
Splitting up wrestling tag teams 101 would say that when the team splits it is because one turns on the other and before they go any further they fight (unless someone is released from the company). This seems to be the case and I couldn't be sadder. Boring. zzzzzz. the crowd also did not help but that may be because, to my memory, this PPV is a free show. Hugh Morrus comes down and helps Barbarian and Jimmy Hart beat up Meng. Yawn.
Then....... the greatest person ever comes out. The man that is one of the most over wrestlers currently in World Wrestling Entertainment, and I would say more over than 1/2 the whole roster...... HACKSAW JIM DUGGAN! Hooooooooooooooo! U S A! Come on tough guy!
He comes in and saves Meng and quite frankly also saves this show for me.
Disco Inferno and Alex Wright vs Public Enemy
the girls like Alex Wright and so do I. I miss Das Wunderkind as a wrestler. Tokyo Magnum comes out. I forgot all about this guy. Some guy with a really weird hat is seen dancing in the crowd. I'm calling it right now, that guy is totally drunk. Seriously, watch the video and on Classics on Demand right now and you'll see he is.
I was never a huge Public Enemy fan. I never hated them and agree they were a good team (especially compared to today's WWE teams) but I was never interested in them that much.
All of sudden weapons are allowed and no one seems to mind this. After some weapon hits from Public Enemy, Disco and Alex leave. And ready for this? THE REFEREE IS COUNTING THEM OUT? What?!?!?!?
Disco gets on the mic and says they are ready for the street fight. The referee then makes the announces say that it is official. This is now a street fight. Since it is now a street fight I'm sitting here and expecting Tokyo Magnum to jump in there. I mean they can't get DQed right?
The story of the match was Tokyo Magnum kept messing up. Alex Wright walked away. Disco got put through 3 tables which took forever to setup. Public Enemy looked pretty good in this match.
Raven's Rules Match
Raven vs Kanyon vs Saturn
Saturn and Kanyon deliver Total Elimination. For awhile Kanyon and Saturn double team Raven since they both hate Raven.
Saturn wins in what seemed like an EXTREMELY long match. But maybe that was just me. It was an okay match but it seemed to drag because it was so long.
Psichosis vs Rey Mysterio
Now it's time to pick up. BRING ON THE FLIPS! My favorite matches in wrestling history are the lightweight matches. Rarely do I say "oh that match sucked" when it comes to lightweights unless the match is really short. Like 30 seconds long.
very good match but then again I'm a little biased.
Chavo Guerrero Jr. (WITH PEPE THE HORSE!) vs Stevie Ray........
Thumbs up to Chavo and Pepe, which may be one of my favorite gimmicks. Chavo with a horse's head on a stick just entertains me for some reason. I was always a Chavo fan in WCW. I liked Pepe, I liked Leuitenant Loco. Nowadays, not so much. Stevie always bored me. Not much of a match but a true 5 star performance from Chavo and Pepe.
Chavo tells Stevie Ray to give him the TV title back since it's his. I agree with him only because Pepe said Chavo is TV champion. Pepe is a reliable source.
Chavo actually has fights with his hand as he goes to shake hands with Stevie Ray.
Tony Schivaone "It's almost like the 90's version of the rope a dope". What the hell is that?
Stevie Ray wants to beat up Chavo more, like the bully that Stevie is. Eddie comes in for the save. What a great uncle!
Rick Steiner vs Scott Steiner
Tony Schiavone: "This is the one match that everyone wants to see". I don't want to see it Tony!
Looks like I luck out too. Rick attacked Scott and now Scott can't wrestle. JJ makes a match for Fall Brawl between the two. The crowd is mad but I don't understand why. It would be a terrible match anyway. Plus, again, isn't this a free show?
Scott gets threatened if he doesn't wrestle at Fall Brawl and he gets up and runs away with Buff Bagwell.
Brian Adams (not the singer) vs Steve McMichael
Decent match with a very unique (in a good way) ref bump. Not much to say outside of that. I'm pretty happy still that I don't get Steiner vs Steiner.
Cruiserweight title Match
Chris Jericho vs Juventud "the Juice" Guerrera
Special Referee: Dean Malenko
Good match. Very interesting ending.
Battle Royal
Participants:
team NWO Black and White: Scott Hall, The Giant, Curt Henning, Scott Norton,
Team NWO wolfpack: Kevin Nash, Sting, Lex Luger, and Konnan
dumbass Bill Goldberg
Before I even start talking about this match, logically everyone should beat up Goldberg. I'm not saying that because I hate the guy either, which I do. He's the world champion. Eliminating him would be huge so everyone should want to do it. Plus deep down, even though both factions are opposed, they are still NWO. But that's another story. Most people think WCW started going down after the fingerpoke of death. I see that as a good reason but for me personally I think it was the creation of NWO Wolfpack. the Creation of that group made zero sense to me.
Even more so, how the announcers are okay with NWO Wolfpack. They are NWO, you have put in my head that they are evil and no good and now because they have the name NWO Wolfpack, it's okay? Never understood that.
I know on the show I bitch about Triple H John Cena, Batista, and some guys just old and I hate the Divas matches. But out of everyone in history Goldberg may be my least favorite. It's close between him and Stephanie McMahon. Goldberg was given everything and didn't care about the business. He had the nerve to not be on the final Nitro, the company the made him and is solely responsible for his fame.
Okay, rant over.
Scott Hall is eliminated by Goldberg. For some reason Kevin Nash steps over the top and eliminates himself to get to Hall. It didn't even look like he was mad. Just that he did it.
Sting and Luger are stomping away on Scott Norton? That seems...... strange. Why wouldn't only 1 of them attack him?
Logic has been thrown out the window as what I mentioned earlier, the exact opposite has happened. No one is going after Goldberg and he's effectively avoiding everyone. Down to Goldberg and Giant.
conclusion: This may be the worst men's battle royal I've ever seen. Logic wise and wrestling wise. Divas battle royals are still the worst but this is only slightly above them.
Diamond Dallas Page and Jay Leno vs Hollywood Hogan and Eric Bischoff
Leno did pretty good for the amount of time he had. I thought the match was decent considering it involved Leno and Bischoff. NWO attack afterwards but is saved by Goldberg (great.....)
Not a great show at all. There were a few shining spots in the lightweight matches. The battle royal was absolutely horrible. I give credit to Leno as he only did basic moves but Divas who have been training for years (or so they claim) can't even do the basic moves. Truth be told, I probably couldn't do it either. Was very happy we didn't get Steiner vs Steiner. Lots of decent matches but nothing spectacular.
thanks for reading
