Welcome to another addition of the No Punches Pulled interview series. After a lengthy absence, this series returns with former NYWC interstate champion Maverick
RL: Were you a wrestling fan grwoing up?
M: Yes I have been a wrestling fan since before I can remember.
RL: When did you decide you were going to be a wrestler?
M: I learned about wrestling outside WWE & WCW when I heard about HWA. After attending a few shows, I found out they had a school. Although I wasn't old enough at the time. I knew I was going to take a shot at pro wrestling.
RL: How did you end up at the NYWC academy?
M: When I was finally able to join a school, I was brought to Critical Mass by Joey Braggiol. Unfortunately, they closed down only about 6 months into training and I spent about a year with no training and almost gave up on the whole idea. I went to an NYWC show to support Braggiol and saw an opening match between Stockade & Mike Spinelli. I was so impressed that I knew I had to give it another go and join the academy.
RL: How hard was the training?
M: Training was very hard when it came to cardio with Mikey Whipwreck and when it came to ring work he was always a stickler for perfection and it could get frustrating at times when you couldn't get things right but it's that kind of training that made me as confident as I am today and I wouldn't trade it for the world.
RL: What were your initial impressions of Mikey Whipwreck?
M: At first I was always intimidated by Mikey. It took time for me as it does for most to gain his respect. He knows what you need for this business and he will make you earn it.
RL: What are your memories of your debut against Spyder?
M: I have grear memories of that match. That was the first time I felt that nervous feeling that I feel to this day and that rush is when you know this is for you. Him being the veteran, Spyder could have showed off his skills and introduce me to the business the hard way but instead he gave me the spotlight and I will never forget that.
RL: What are your memories of Amazing Red & SAT?
M: Being a huge fan of HWA I was always entertained and inspired by their in ring performance especially Red. Now knowing Red personally I respect him even more and hope to step in the ring with nim again.
RL: What are your memoires of facing Plazma?
M: Given the experience level I was at, these weren't necessarily match of the year candidates but when we stepped in the ring we knew every match was going to be memorable. We would always push each other to the limit and it was great.
RL: What are your memories of Dan Barry?
M: Taught me a lot of cool things
RL: What are your memories of Ken Scampi?
M: One tough SOB, but a nice dude.
RL: What are your memories of Damien Dragon & Foxy?
M: Great combination.
RL: What are your memories of Javi-Air?
M: Great match between him, Dickie Rodz, & myself.
RL: What are your memories of your program with the aforementioned Dickie Rodz?
M: This was my first time doing a program with someone and we had some great matches. The final blow off anything goes match will always be remembered by me and it really lit a fire under me.
RL: What are your memories of teaming with Plazma?
M: He & I had a lot of fun teaming together. We pushed each other even more than we did when facing each other and would always compete on who looked and wrestled better. He taught me a lot and is one of the reasons I have the drive I have now.
